Each time a girl opens a book and reads a womanless history, she learns she is worth less.

Did You Know?
Many trailblazing women got their start as teachers in the classroom. In fact, their experience informed future activism. Dolores Huerta, for example, saw firsthand how poverty, hunger, and instability affected her students--many of whom came to school exhausted from working in the fields. After leaving the classroom, she would co-found the United Farm Workers, a labor union for agricultural workers, and fought for minimum wage protections, access to clean drinking water, bathroom breaks, protection from pesticide exposure, and health benefits. Learn more about educators and activists like Huerta in this month's featured biographies.
If we want our girls to benefit from the courage and wisdom of the women before them, we have to share the stories.
